After an all-important yet indulgent Christmas period of feasting – what better way to kickstart 2022 than with some super healthy New Year’s resolutions?!
We know a thing or two about health thanks to our Sophie (daughter of farmer John), who won the Scottish Curling Championships in 2019 and is hoping to compete at the Olympics in Beijing in 2022 – as well as leading up Little Farmers with brother George and helping out around the farm!
Find out Sophie’s top tips for healthy eating below…
Eating well
What’s your advice for building healthy eating habits?
Try to add fruit and veg into each meal, you can easily do this by making smoothie bowls for breakfast or try this tasty Apple and Cinnamon Overnight Oats recipe. I also love to have the Craigies homemade peanut butter with my porridge!
Add lots of vegetables to your dinner – I like to add different veg to my pasta dishes and stir fries depending on the season. Craigies seasonal veg box is really handy for getting a selection of your favourite greens in one go!
What are your favourite healthy snacks to eat on the go?
I love to make smoothies, they are easy to make and great to enjoy whilst you are out and about! I always use the fresh seasonal fruit and veg from Craigie’s, the cherries in July are amazing and they even sell frozen fruit in the shop so you can get it all year round.
Try this delicious recipe for Craigies Strawberry Smoothie!
Chopped carrots or peppers with a dip make a great snack. I also love to go and pick my own fruit at Craigie’s such as the apples from the orchard, raspberries, strawberries and cherries – I can’t wait until they are in season.

What can you do to make eating healthy food more interesting?
Find recipes online to make trying healthy food fun. I like to try different cuisines from around the world to add variety to my diet. Try and make your meals as colourful as possible!
Jamie’s Lamb Rogan Josh is really tasty, or this Aubergine, Pumpkin and Coconut Curry for the veggies!
Staying active
What did you do to stay active when you were at school?
I tried a lot of different sports when I was at school, but curling was the one I loved the most – I have made so many new friends through the sport.
There are lots of ways that kids today can have fun and stay active – like playing sports and games with friends such as rounders, football, dodgeball and tig. And of course, heading out on family walks to explore the countryside, like the walks you can access from the farm.
What is a great day out that also promotes keeping active & healthy?
Little Farmers is not only great fun but it’s also an excellent way to keep kids active. There are lots of things that they can climb on and plenty of space to run around – perfect for tiring them out!
The Pick Your Own at Craigies is also great for an active family day out. In summer and autumn, you can walk around the farm to pick fresh fruit and veg whilst seeing some of the farm animals that live out in the fields!
