One thing we take real pride in at Craigie's is ensuring that we work with small producers and suppliers who are largely based in Scotland and who have a similar ethos to us. This month, we speak to Claire Rennie of Summerhouse Drinks.
Summerhouse Drinks is a family business based in Fraserburgh, Aberdeenshire. They produce real lemonades using 100% natural ingredients. Their Scottish Raspberry lemonade is one of their best sellers and we know why. If you've not tried it yet pick some up next time you're in store. In 2015 they introduced the first Scottish Tonic Water to their range which mixes very well with any premium Scottish gin!
How does working with Craigie's help your company?
"Craigie's have been stocking our lemonades since they launched in 2014 and our Walter Gregor's Tonic Water since it launched in 2015. They are a great supporter of local, Scottish produce and by being one of the first customers to stock our drinks, they have helped us grow from a micro company into not such a micro company!"
What challenges do you face running your business?
"Our biggest challenge is our location. Much as we love living on the north Aberdeenshire coast, we are very rural and so the cost of haulage to get ingredients delivered to us and our products out to customers is a challenge. We also suffer from really slow broadband which gets worse if it is a windy day as our broadband comes along the telephone line for half a mile."
If you were at point of sale in Craigie's what would you say to potential customers?
" We are passionate about making great tasting drinks with real ingredients. We make all our drinks from scratch to our own recipes with no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives on our family farm in Aberdeenshire. We grow mint, lavender and other herbs in our garden and like to use as many as these to flavour our drinks as we can. As we are only half a mile from the sea, our Walter Gregor's Tonic Water picks up a salty note which means it pairs perfectly with coastal and island gins."
Are you able to sum up your business/products in a few words?!
"Real, natural, refreshing and committed."
